009: #crying in chanel
Today I walked into the Chanel store at Saks, conducting my usual studies and observations when the associate asked me if there was anything he could help me with. Normally when I am asked this question I immediately answer with "No thanks I'm fine." But today felt different. I was moving with an uncommon motivation, spurred by my day-long efforts to step beyond my comfort zone, surprising even myself by speaking up... to everyone.
As an active step away from my usual quietness, I decided to tell him exactly why I was in the store, and he wanted to know more. I gave him my whole rundown– my pursuit of art school, my passion for fashion marketing, and my current decision to forego formal education to chase my dreams in the field. His response was beyond what I expected. He expressed admiration not only for my quick wit but also for my unwavering determination to forge ahead. Keyword: forge. I am literally MAKING my way. He expressed to me his feelings about young people not wanting to work anymore and what a rarity it was to come across someone like me who is looking to get my hands as dirty as possible... in the most high fashion way of course.
His genuine astonishment at my journey compelled me to share how profoundly his words resonated with me. You see VAULT, my path hasn't always appeared promising. I've grappled with doubt because there's no one assigning me tasks, no boss or mentor to guide me through the intricacies of this creative realm. There's no one to review my work and provide feedback on whether I'm on the right track or completely off-base. Yet, I push through because creation consumes my thoughts from dawn till dusk... literally.
Reassurances come in unexpected ways, I tell you. The senior fashion advisor at Chanel found such beauty and inspiration in a story I had almost grown exhausted of telling. Here I was, navigating my own circumstances the best I could, and yet, someone saw something remarkable in my journey.
I wanted to share this because I yap a lot to the VAULT about shamelessly pursuing your passions, and sometimes we don't instantly see the fruits of our labor, so we think the labor wasn't worthy. It's all lies. Take what you will from this one. I hope you feel inspired. Sending you all so much love. VC is your biggest fan.
xoxo, Vault Camari
